As
I have been preparing for the second edition of my new e-zine, I have
also been busily preparing for the holidays. First, was Thanksgiving,
filled with family, laughter, nostalgia and FOOD. Now, as we get ready
for Christmas, the familiar phrase, "hustle and bustle"
is fresh on my mind. With basketball games, gift buying, office parties,
Advent preparations, and yes... FOOD. It's difficult to "waddle"
through this season without at least gaining a pound or two. I guess
it's a blessing in disguise that we are so busy going, going, going.
If not, we'd all be gaining, gaining, gaining.
I wish each and every one of you a blessed and magical Christmas.
Whether you still have little ones peering around the corner on Christmas
morning to get a first glance at what was left beneath the tree, or
you have a serene, crackling fire and a quiet moment to reflect, I
wish you peace and joy. Merry Christmas. |
Define
Good...
This
month's featured painting isn't brand new, but I thought it suited
the timing as we get ready for Christmas. "Define Good"
appeared on our family Christmas cards in 2003. The idea crept into
my head one day as our middle child, Lizzie, was carefully determining
exactly how angelic she needed to be in order to still be graced by
a visit from St. Nick.
I recently had a friend ask if I would be offering Christmas card
designs on my site this year. With the launch of the e-zine and a
very busy time of year, I regretfully do not have Christmas card designs
this year. However, I will have a line of Valentines available in
2006. Watch for your January e-zine for more details! |

The
Humor Around Us
The
question for every child this time of year tends to be, "What
are you going to ask for from Santa?"
You never quite know what you'll hear in reply. Sometimes it's an
old standard; a bike, a doll, a 200-shot, Carbine Action Air Rifle...
Once in awhile, you'll hear a sweet, carefully orchestrated reply
such as; "I don't mind what Santa brings, I don't really need
anything." Yeah right.
Our kids are no different. Beginning in about June, they start sorting
out the toy catalogs that arrive in the mail and pouring over them
like a crazed law student just before the BAR exam. With sharpened
pencils tight-in-hand, they circle, star, X and number thousands
of items in countless catalogs. Then there's the perfectly pondered
placement. You'll be innocently preparing an evening meal when stuck
between two cookbooks is a Disney catalog chock full of notes and
dog-ears.
This year it was the same story. Listening to lists of prioritized
wants and wishes. Our oldest, 13, wants an iPOD. No big deal, just
a super expensive, top-of-the-line gadget available in stores everywhere.
Our middle child, seven, desperately wants an American Girl doll.
A very SPECIFIC doll, available for a limited time only and apparently
in high demand. But the sweetest request of all, came from our youngest,
who is three. She wants "dreen-pez", or to those of you
who don't speak 3-year-old, "Green PEZ" candy. The kind
in the tall dispenser that you can find at any 5-and-dime for about
a nickel. Ahhh, how I'll savor the sweet days of innocence when
all they ask for is a simple piece of dimestore candy. I'll remember
this when she asks for the number one electronic device at age ten.
